Plaque unveiled for Wendy Richard

Stars including Todd Carty, Natalie Cassidy and Les Dennis turned out for the unveiling of a plaque to honour the late actress Wendy Richard in London.

Are You Being Served? creator David Croft pulled the rope to reveal the plaque at the Shepherd's Tavern, the pub Richard's parents ran in Mayfair.

Richard, who died of cancer earlier this year, also starred in EastEnders.

Carty described Richard as a television institution, adding: "She meant the world to me, like a second mum".

The actor, who played Richard's son Mark in the BBC One soap opera, said: "She knew me from a very young age. We hit it off from the first minute."

James Alexandrou, who played her other son Martin, also attended.

His on-screen wife Natalie Cassidy said Richard was "a true gem" and "a comedy legend".

Richard was also well known for playing Miss Brahms in department store sitcom Are You Being Served?

Her parents Henry and Beatrice Emerton, were landlord and landlady at the Shepherds Tavern, in Shepherd Market, Mayfair, when the actress was a child.
