Buses 'dangerous' for Neil

You know you're becoming a famous face when public transport is a difficult place to be.

That's the stage it's reached for Neil McDermott, who has only been in EastEnders since April but is already getting recognised.

The actor, who plays Ryan Malloy, said: "Tops of buses are dangerous places to be these days, and the Tube.

"People come and say hello and sing theme tunes at you but it's all good. On the whole everyone's been really supportive and nice to me so far so I can't complain."

When Ryan first arrived on the scene his identity was kept a secret, and it was only in July that he was revealed to be Whitney Dean's half brother.

The hunky newcomer has already caused a stir on the Square, catching the eye of both Ronnie Mitchell and Janine Butcher.

Speaking of his short time in the show, Neil said: "It's been brilliant. Everyone's been really welcoming. It's great to go into work every day and do something you really want to do."

And the 28-year-old has been a hit with viewers too. He scored a nomination in the Most Popular Newcomer character at the National Television Awards, which came as a pleasant surprise to the actor.

"I was a bit surprised because I've hardly been it. Some of the other guys up for the award seem to have been doing their shows for quite a long time. But I feel very proud and privileged," he said.
