Eco friendly Kacey Ainsworth

Kacey Ainsworth quit EastEnders to build an eco-home.

The British actress who played long-suffering Little Mo Mitchell in the soap from 2000 until 2006 decided to leave the BBC One show because she was struggling to cope with being a working mother and building her dream home.

She said: "I don't think you can have it all. You have to go through so much stress to keep all those balls in the air. It's far too much hassle.

"And it's important to be able to keep an eye on young children all the time, so you can catch them drawing on the walls."

The 38-year-old actress and her husband, plumber Darren Hales, bought a plot of land in a Hertfordshire village, tore down the existing property and built their environmentally friendly home.

She explained: "It took us five years from the initial idea to the end of the build. It's ecologically better to build from what you've got. But it became impossible to do that with the original bungalow.

"The whole point of an eco-house is that you don't build an enormous house. I find it annoying when celebrities lecture people about being green, yet they've got 19 bathrooms."
