Laurie Brett denies any Masood romance

Laurie Brett thinks her EastEnders alter-ego, Jane Beale, will always put her ungrateful husband first.

The Scottish actress who plays feisty Jane Beale in the BBC soap said her character may be tempted by kind and caring Masood Ahmed, but is unlikely to cheat on her chip shop owning husband Ian Beale because she loves him too much.

She said: "It's got to be Ian. Masood and Jane get on really well and have a little thing there, it's an attraction on all levels. But at the end of the day, for some weird reason, Jane really does love Ian, there are no two ways about it. Ian and Jane are in it for the long run."

Laurie said she wasn't so sure, however, if her character would be able to remain faithful if Grant Mitchell returned to the show, as they've previously had an affair.

She said: "I don't think they would have an affair again, though you never know. Grant is an iconic character, and Ross Kemp would be welcome any time he comes back."

Despite her dowdy appearance on the soap, Laurie said she didn't think Jane needed a makeover, because it wouldn't suit her character.

She said: "I think the fact that she gets fashion and things a bit wrong a lot of the time is more interesting than making her all glam and stylish."
