Woodyatt 'can't wait' for live ep

EastEnders star Adam Woodyatt "can't wait" for the soap's live episode next week.

The actor, who has played Ian Beale since the start of the show, said he was aware of the potential for things to go wrong during the broadcast.

He told the Daily Mirror: "I can't wait for it, I want to see the director's face when I leave a huge pause between lines."

He went on: "It'll be bleedin' hysterical."

Adam said the cast have "little strategies" planned in case the proceedings go awry.

"I'm going upstairs to check on Bobby. Steve (who plays Phil Mitchell) is going to say: 'I've had enough of this' and just walk out."

As he reflected on the past quarter of a century of the soap, Adam said he was "devastated" when screen mum Gillian Taylforth (Kathy Beale) left the programme.

But he said it wouldn't be right for her deceased character to make a comeback.

"I've heard it mooted that Kathy could have faked her death in the car crash but as much as I would love to see Gilly back here, it wouldn't be right," he said.

"The Den storyline was plausible. But to try to bring anybody else back from the dead simply wouldn't work."
