Lacey Turner: Glad I wasn't Demi

EastEnders star Lacey Turner has told how she is pleased she never got the part of Demi Miller, which she originally auditioned for.

The 22-year-old award-winning actress is quitting Albert Square after six years as feisty Stacey, a part that was created especially for her after she was turned down for the short-lived part of Darren Miller's twin sister - Demi, played by Shana Swash.

Lacey told the TV Times: "I might not have been here now if I'd got that part. I remember them ringing me to tell me I hadn't got it and I went to bed upset. Now I'm so happy I got the chance to play Stacey because she's a character who cane be anywhere, with anyone and do anything."

Before she leaves the soap, Lacey is excited about taking on the challenge of acting with a baby.

She said: "I'm quite excited about it and I'm just waiting to see whether Stacey will be a good or bad mum!

"I think acting with a baby will be all right because I've got a little sister.

"I was 13 when she was born so I've handled baby stuff before. They're OK when they're newborn because they don't really make a noise!"
