Zsa Zsa and Leon to exit Walford

Zsa Zsa Carter and Leon Small are being written out of EastEnders.

The two characters, played by Emer Kenny and Sam Attwater respectively, first appeared in online mini-series EastEnders: E20, which Emer helped pen, before making the transition into the main soap.

EastEnders' new executive producer Bryan Kirkwood told Digital Spy: "Emer and Sam have made a real impact in the short time they've been on the Square and we wish them all the best for the future."

He added: "Of course, we look forward to continuing working with Emer in her capacity as a writer on EastEnders: E20."

He said the young E20 cast had a "massive job and responsibility" to fit into the make-up of the main show, saying: "I don't think that's been as successful as it could have been."

Bryan acknowledged, however, that there were "some cracking actors" in the gang.

Other actors due to leave this year include Lacey Turner (Stacey Slater), Derek Martin (Charlie Slater) and Barbara Windsor (Peggy Mitchell).

The producer's new signings include Zoe Lucker and Kylie Babbington, who will play mum and daughter Vanessa and Jodie Gold.
