Kalidas: Soap scenes were upsetting

Ex-EastEnder Preeya Kalidas has confessed she found the aftermath of her character's exit "really upsetting".

Preeya's alter ego Amira Masood left Albert Square in emotional scenes in April after discovering her husband Syed was gay.

The actress said: "I watched the aftermath of when Amira left because I had no idea what was happening as I hadn't asked the other guys. And it was really upsetting. It was actually quite distressing. Everyone was down in the dumps."

She added: "The moment when Zainab turned round and said to Syed 'I'd rather you die than being gay' was so heartbreaking."

Preeya added that she was "ecstatic" about her departure scenes, saying: "I couldn't have asked for a better exit. I got to play the drama."

The actress left the show to pursue a pop career and her first single, Shimmy, is out next month.
