EastEnders duo taking break from show

EastEnders star Patsy Palmer, who plays feisty red-head, Bianca Butcher in the BBC soap, has been given six months off over the summer to spend more time with her real life family, it has been revealed.

In the soap, her character will leave the show at the end of this month, in what have been described as some of the most heartbreaking scenes in the soaps history.

Viewers have seen Bianca recently resort to borrowing money she can not repay and begging for food in order to keep her family going, and it is from this situation that she is set to bow out for the extended summer period.

Also joining her exit is her on-screen mother, Carol Jackson, played by Lindsey Coulson, A show insider said: “Bianca knows what she is doing is wrong but she acts in the best interests of her kids who mean the world to her.”

The sad departure is to be screened on April 27th, and will include an explosive showdown with Carol who will take Bianca’s children away with her to live in the country until the family is set to return at the end of the year.

The source said: “Bianca’s emotional struggle for survival will grip viewers over the next couple of weeks. The explosive argument with Carol is sure to break people’s hearts as they realise just how close to the edge she is.”

The break is not permanent though, nor is it the first time, with Patsy Palmer having taken extended breaks from her role on a few occasions since she joined the cast in 1993, with the most recent being when her character went to prison last year. However, a source has confirmed the family will return, stating: “Patsy and Lindsey will be back on screen later this year.”
