Shona McGarty suspended

Shona McGarty, who plays Whitney Dean on EastEnders, has been suspended for four weeks without pay for consistently failing to turn up to the set on time.

Lorraine Newman, who runs the London-based soap, reportedly called McGarty up on her behaviour after receiving complaints from the cast and crew.

A source from the BBC told the Daily Star: 'Shona failed to turn up on time on more than one occasion and was really laid back about why she was late.

'People are understanding when it’s once or even twice but her lateness was becoming a huge problem. It regularly held up the filming of vital scenes and angered fellow cast and crew members who were forced to work late because of her.

'There were a lot of unhappy people so Lorraine had no choice but to take action.

Shona was read the riot act and apologised for her behaviour.

They added: 'Obviously, she’s not happy about what’s happened and was quite upset about it all afterwards'.

It is not yet known how or whether show bosses will work Shona's temporary departure into an on screen storyline for Whitney.

McGarty has come under fire for her behaviour before when she was banned from Asda for suggestively covering herself in yoghurt while mucking about with boyfriend Matt Lapinskas, who plays Anthony Moon on the show.
