Dot Branning to make EastEnders return in January
The character, played by June Brown, has been a regular fixture of the show since it began in 1985, but has been absent for most of this year after Brown took a sabbatical.
However, it has now be confirmed she will be back in January, with executive producer Lorraine Newman saying she was "thrilled" at the news.
"Dot is one of EastEnders' best loved characters and Albert Square hasn't been the same without her," Newman said.
The character was last seen in Walford in the Spring of this year.
During her time off June, 85, has been writing her memoirs as well as working on the BBC One documentary Respect Your Elders.
She is one of the few current characters who has appeared in the show since in began in 1985, winning a Bafta nomination in 2009 for an episode which consisted entirely of her recording an emotional message for her husband Jim as he recovered from a stroke.
