David Witts to leave EastEnders

Actor David Witts has become the latest member of the EastEnders cast to announce his departure from the soap.

The 20-year-old  who joined the show in summer 2012 as Joey Branning will bow out at Christmas, and is currently filming his exit storyline.

There is no word yet on how his character will leave Albert Square although it has been reported that it may be linked to his sister Alice's relationship with Michael Moon and Janine Butcher.

Jasmyn Banks, who plays Alice Branning, is also due to leave EastEnders later this year.

A spokesperson for the show told Daily Star Sunday: "We can confirm that David is leaving EastEnders later this year and we wish him all the best for the future."

David had previously admitted he did not see his EastEnders career being long-term as he had other acting ambitions.

"I've been in jobs before. Hopefully I'll be in jobs after EastEnders. And that's what I enjoy doing," he told the Radio Times earlier this year.

"I don't want to go onto any sort of reality show as I think that's sort of like a downward spiral.

"You do that and then you have Hello! covering your wedding and OK! Magazine covering your divorce. And then you release My Life by David Witts in your mid-20s when you haven’t done anything. I think it’s all quite ridiculous."
