Pictures: Charlie makes his EastEnders return

EastEnders actor Derek Martin will return to Albert Square on Christmas Eve.

The 80-year-old, who has reprised his role as patriarch Charlie Slater, will make his grand entrance on the BBC soap on December 24.

He appears as the surprise guest of Mo Harris, who decides to make Kat and Alfie Moon's last night at the Queen Vic pub a memorable one.

The pair, played by Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie, feel down about losing the Vic to new landlord Mick Carter and his family, and the possibility of being homeless during the Christmas period.

Derek, who will reprise his role as Charlie for one episode only, played the character for 11 years before he left in 2011. He returned for a brief two-episode stint a few months later, but this is the first time he has appeared on the show since then.

The episode will be shown on December 24.
