Danielle Harold: 'No one saw me on Jamie's show'

Danielle Harold has admitted she was concerned about how her new EastEnders co-stars might view her after her stint on Jamie's Dream School.

Before the young actress landed the role of Lola Pearce on the BBC1 show she appeared on Jamie Oliver's fly-on-the-wall documentary about teenage tearaways struggling with the education system.

Danielle said of her colleagues on the soap: "I don't think much of them watched (Jamie's Dream School) which was probably a good thing.

They asked me what I'd done before and I was like, 'Jamie's Dream School, did you see that?' But it's been great, I've had a great year."

The star admitted she still can't get over her luck at being part of the show - and insisted she's nothing like her feisty character, who's currently embroiled in a pregnancy storyline.

"That's what makes it such fun to play, she's so different from me. It's really fun just to not care about anything," she added.

"I get recognised a lot too. You never expect to, but it happens in the weirdest places, in Sainsbury's when I'm food shopping. I still can't believe my luck now, it's just really strange, really surreal."

EastEnders actress Cheryl Fergison has revealed she would love to win a role in Downton Abbey now that she is leaving Albert Square.

Speaking to Inside Soap magazine the actress - who has played Heather Trott for almost five years - thinks her CV makes her an ideal candidate for ITV1's hit costume drama.

"I'd really love to be in Downton Abbey," Cheryl said.

"Before I got EastEnders I used to do lots of 'under stairs' roles, but perhaps I could go upstairs this time and prance around a bit. I'd love to do all that."

Heather is tipped to have a dramatic exit from EastEnders following reports that she will be murdered by Ben Mitchell - and while Cheryl told the magazine she has loved her time on the show she is looking forward to the future.

"I've watched EastEnders since the day it started when I was a student in Manchester," she said."I've loved being here and every minute of playing Heather."

"But now I can do anything I want, so it's really exciting. If I could have a wish list I'd love to go to Morocco and do documentaries with my husband, Yassine."

Cheryl Fergison 'to haunt' EastEnders

Cheryl Fergison has vowed to "haunt" 'EastEnders' after not being able to appear in her exit scenes.

The actress who plays unlucky-in-love launderette worker Heather Trott in the BBC One soap was banned from starring in her alter-ego's grisly departure from Albert Square after show bosses deemed the scenes "too violent".

Instead, a male stunt double has been drafted in to protect Cheryl's safety.

The Sun newspaper quotes the furious actress as telling friends: "It's my last scene and I'm not even in it! I'm going to come back to haunt 'EastEnders' as a ghost."

It has already been revealed that Heather will be murdered in a cold-blooded killing by troubled teen Ben Mitchell.

Viewers will see Ben leave Heather's flat dripping in blood, but after no-one on Albert Square spots him, his hardman dad Phil later destroys the evidence.

A number of Walford residents will come under suspicion over the killing, including businessman Ian Beale and Darren Miller, the father of Heather's young son George.

Phil's girlfriend, Shirley Carter is devastated by the death of her best friend and soon starts to suspect that the ruddy-faced bad boy was involved in some way.

A source recently said: "Heather's exit stuns the Square. Everyone is looking over their shoulder wondering who is responsible.''

Fat Boy is showering Whitney with Valentine's day gifts, but rather than enjoy the attention Whitney feels suffocated. Meanwhile, Lucy can see that Tyler has feelings for Whitney and after knocking her back she decides to manipulate the situation to give Tyler a taste of his own medicine.

After taking some advice from Dot, Andrew encourages Heather to spend the evening with Shirley as long as she is home before midnight as he has made plans. However, Heather and Shirley hit the town and they soon end up crashed out on the sofa

Fat Boy is excited about taking Whitney to Paris, but Whitney starts to worry that she sees Fat Boy as a friend rather than a boyfriend and realises what she has to do.

Heather panics when she wakes up on Shirley’s sofa and rushes home to find the remnants of the romantic evening that Andrew had prepared. Worried about Andrew’s reaction, Heather tracks him down and tells him how much her life has changed over the year, leaving Andrew unable to stay angry at her. Meanwhile, Dot and Rose continue to bicker over the wedding plans.

Alfie does his best to avoid Derek, still regretting going into business with him. When he finally speaks to Derek, Alfie tries to get out of their deal - but it’s clear that there is no turning back.

EastEnders star Ricky Norwood has hailed the 'amazing turnaround' viewers have made for his character Fat Boy.

The actor, who won Best Newcomer at the 2011 National TV Awards, told whatsontv.co.uk: "It's been an amazing turnaround. When I first came in people used to say to me 'I don't like, I don't like you on my screen!' But now people say to me, 'You know what, when I first saw you I didn't like you, but now I love Fat Boy'.

His character is a classic unlucky-in-love soul, but Ricky hopes this is going to change. "It'd be lovely if a girl came along and was there for him. Fat Boy's the one who will always run to someone's rescue, so it'd be nice for someone to run to his rescue one day..."

Speaking at the National TV Awards 2012, Shona who plays Whitney Dean in the BBC1 soap revealed: "As an actress I like the challenge of a dramatic storyline. I find it very difficult to do comedy, so I prefer the crying."

Charlie Brooks 'mourning' Pam exit

Speaking on the red carpet at this years National Television Awards, Charlie who plays Janine in the BBC1 soap revealed how much she missed Pam, who played Walford matriarch Pat Evans for 25 years. Pat died of cancer on New Year's Day.

Charlie said: "We've got, both personally as well as on screen, such a history together and she's like one of my favourite people in the world."

Jacqueline supports binge-drinking plot

EastEnders' Jacqueline Jossa says teen binge-drinking should be taken more seriously.

The 19-year-old actress plays Lauren Barnning, who is coping with the stress of her mother Tanya's cervical cancer by drowning her sorrows in drink. Jacqueline told The Sun she hopes the storyline highlights the issue that teenage binge-drinkers could be suffering from serious alcohol problems.

She said: "It's good EastEnders have done the storyline. It highlights that teenagers who people label irresponsible could be doing it to deal with worries they are keeping to themselves.

"What they actually need is help or someone to talk to."

She added: "At first to Lauren drinking was a laugh.

"Then it became a way of forgetting - she has carried the burden of keeping her mum's illness secret."

Jacqueline is nominated for Best Newcomer at the National Television Awards, which last year was won by her co-star Ricky Norwood, who plays Fatboy.

Samantha Womack: baby plot was implausible

Former EastEnders star Samantha Womack has admitted that the controversial storyline in which her character Ronnie Mitchell snatched Kat Moon's baby was not 'realistic'.

The plot, in which Ronnie swapped Kat's son for her own after he died of cot death, was one of the most complained about in the soap's history.

However speaking to the Mirror the actress said, "I thought it was implausible. Most women who lose a child would not go out and abduct one," she says. "But Ronnie is a soap character and she is not necessarily representing real life.

"Soap is based on controversy and sensationalism because bosses are trying to get high ratings and they can't write things like 'Ronnie had a cup of tea'. Otherwise people wouldn’t watch it."

The storyline eventually culminated in Ronnie leaving Albert Square after she was sent to prison, but Samantha - who is now touring the UK in the musical South Pacific - has denied she quit in protest at the public reaction.

"It was emotionally and physically exhausting," she confessed. "It was the right time for Ronnie to be put to bed. I also left because you can end up being typecast.

"If you want to do good work, you have to take yourself out of your comfort zone. It was very frightening leaving a job that I got on so well in and it did feel like a very big risk."

Ben to kill Heather in EastEnders?

EastEnders' beloved Heather Trott could be killed off by Ben Mitchell, according to reports.

The troubled teen, played by Joshua Pascoe, will apparently turn into a cold-blooded murderer after a heated row with the mother-of-one played by Cheryl Fergison at her flat.

Ben's dad Phil, who is thought to destroy evidence to protect his son, is suspected of committing the murder by girlfriend Shirley Carter, with a number of other Walford residents also finding themselves under suspicion as Heather's murder sends shockwaves through Albert Square.

An EastEnders spokesperson commented: "Heather's life will go through various twists and turns over the next couple of months which will place numerous people in the frame."

Cheryl's exit from the BBC One soap was confirmed last September, with EastEnders bosses saying that her current contract had come to a natural end.

Heather, who first appeared on screens in June 2007, will be immortalised in soap history as the hapless cleaner who loves cheese, karaoke and George Michael. She had a son George, named after her favourite music idol, with then teenager Darren Miller (Charlie G Hawkins).

Pam St Clement has revealed that she almost didn't watch her final scene on EastEnders.

Millions of viewers saw the emotional moment when Pat Butcher died in the soap after 26 years.

But she told OK! magazine: "I wasn't going to watch it, because I thought I would say 'you silly moo, what have you done!'

"I was going to watch it on my own, but my family said they really wanted to see it, so I watched it with them and I was actually quite quiet."

She added: "I was quite critical of myself. I'm still watching the show. In fact I think I enjoy it more now!"

The actress was speaking at the 40th birthday party of EastEnders star Sid Owen (Ricky Butcher).

Guest Perry Fenwick (Billy Mitchell) said Sid was a practical joker.

"I once had a scene behind the bar of the Vic with Sid and he took off his trousers and because you can't see anything from the waist down he did the scene with a completely straight face," he said.

Laila Dancing injury written into EastEnders?

Laila Morse thinks the injury she got while on Dancing On Ice might have to be written into EastEnders.

The actress needs surgery to her shoulder after tearing some tendons during rehearsals for the ice skating competition, and she told The Sun that she still might be wearing a sling by the time she returns to the Square.

She said: "[Skate partner] Lukasz said my shoulder will take about 12 weeks to fix because it is a tear."

"I can just go back to EastEnders and pretend I have been hit by a bus or something. I have had an accident on holiday or something with Fat Elvis. They can come up with something."

Laila added she was relieved to have been booted off Dancing On Ice because she was missing her EastEnders co-stars Jessie Wallace, Shane Richie and Gillian Wright.

EastEnders star Matt Lapinskas has revealed that he feels under pressure to keep fit.

The actor, who plays Anthony Moon in the BBC soap, often has scenes where he has to strip off to his boxers alongside his screen brother Tyler.

"When you're in the public eye, you feel like you have to keep in shape. You're always under pressure," he told Heat.

Matt admitted that he couldn't believe it when he first saw his 'wardrobe'.

"We walked into our dressing rooms and there were just some boxers hanging up. We rang down saying, 'Our costumes aren't here', and they said, 'Yeah, they are'. I was like, 'Are you serious?'" he recalled.

The actor - who is dating co-star Shona McGarty - tries to keep his work and love life separate.

"We don't take our relationships on set," he said.

And he confessed to getting star-struck when he first met Steve McFadden, who plays hardman Phil Mitchell.

"I was most excited to meet Steve. Every new cast member is given a mentor who shows you the ropes, and mine was Steve," he admitted.

"It was pretty weird sitting down talking about scripts with Phil Mitchell."

EastEnders icon Wicksy returns to bid Pat farewell

Former EastEnders favourite Simon Wicks - aka Wicksy - returned to Albert Square on Friday night to pay his final respects to his mother Pat following her funeral.

Wicksy, played by actor Nick Berry, showed up under cover of darkness in a special scene which followed the closing credits of Friday's episode.

And in a brief tribute to his mother, he was seen approaching her flower-strewn grave and placing his own bouquet on top, before saying, 'Goodbye mum.'

The character, dressed in a long dark coat, spent several seconds kneeling at the graveside before he turned and walked away.

It was the first time that Wicksy - who first arrived in Albert Square in 1985, just a few months after the show began - had been seen in the soap since leaving in 1990.

He originally fled from Albert Square with Ian's then wife Cindy - played by Michelle Collins - after they had an affair.

The character had since settled in New Zealand, although Pat had, before her death, been seen asking Ricky to phone him and tell him about her illness.

There had been speculation that Nick Berry would return following Pat's death, although his scene was filmed just 24 hours before the episode was screened, with show bosses saying the appearance would be a 'one-off'.

The actor, now 48, went on to enjoy a successful career in other shows after his departure from EastEnders including ITV's Heartbeat and the BBC drama Harbour Lights.

According to recent reports he has since retired from acting and runs a production company, Valentine Productions.

EastEnders newcomer Chucky Venn has revealed that his family are thrilled he is appearing in Albert Square - even more so than when he worked on Batman blockbuster The Dark Knight.

Chucky - who also featured in The Bourne Ultimatum and the Sky One hit Dream Team - is due to make his Walford debut as Ray Dixon, who is Bianca's ex and father of her son Morgan.

And he told Inside Soap magazine, "It's funny, I've worked on big productions with the likes of Morgan Freeman and Joan Collins, but the minute my kids found out I'd won a role in EastEnders they were like 'That's so cool!' It's quality."

The 38-year-old added that he is a lifelong fan of the soap - and called his agent to ask for an audition as soon as he heard that the part of Ray was up for grabs.

"I remember watching the very first episode when I was about 12 years old, so it's a real privilege to now be a part of television history," he said.

Lindsey: 'Carol can't lose David again'

New Lucy will cause mayhem for Ian

EastEnders' troublesome teen Lucy Beale is set to cause havoc for dad Ian and his new girlfriend Mandy when she returns to Albert Square.

Hetti Bywater has taken over the role of the troubled teenager who will be back in the soap for Pat's funeral next week after spending a year living in Devon.

Lucy lands Ian in hot water when he lies to Mandy and tells her she and twin brother Peter are too busy to come to the funeral, when in fact he hasn't contacted either of them to invite them. He has also avoided telling them he is now with Mandy.

So when Lucy finds out about the funeral and turns up to bid Pat farewell she is angry about his secrecy and even more furious to find Mandy in their home, demanding to know who she is.

Lucy is not impressed with her dad's new girlfriend and she and former wild child Mandy are set to clash, leaving Ian caught in the middle.

Lucy also reportedly decides to smuggle along some alcopops to Pat's funeral, much to the delight of Lauren Branning.

The youngster left Walford in August 2010 to go and live with her grandmother after cheating on her exams and having an abortion behind her step-mum Jane's back.

But now Lucy is back with a bang.

Hetti has said: "I'm really excited to be joining such an iconic show as EastEnders, especially becoming part of the Beale household."

Pam St Clement may have bowed out of EastEnders as one its best-loved characters, but she expected hate mail when she first joined.

The actress, who played earring-loving Pat Evans in the soap for 25 years until the character's death on New Year's Day, said she was amazed the character was so well received.

She said: "It's strange because even in the early years I thought I'd get hate mail, but I didn't and I think that what people liked was a vivacious go-getting, a person with an interesting history and a person who under it all was really quite vulnerable."

The actress wasn't sure if she was going to miss playing Pat, saying: "She's been my doppelganger all these years, 25-and-a-half years. And maybe I might find myself emerging like a chrysalis from this, from the image of Pat, I don't know. I've never had that image of myself, but the audience probably has and I think I'd hope they'd remember it.

But Pam is certain of what she will miss about the show.

She said: "I am definitely going to miss the people. The cast, many of whom are friends now and will remain friends, so that's fine. I won't miss them because I'll see them, not on a regular basis, but I will see them.

"I'll miss everybody in production and beyond because there's a very tight core of loyal people here, loyal to the show, loyal to each other and they've been in the saddle for a long time and I've known them for a long time."

EastEnders star Nitin Ganatra has revealed his pride at the Masood family being a central part of this year's festive storylines in Albert Square.

The actor whose character Masood Ahmed was involved in a dangerous confrontation with Yusef over ex-wife Zainab this Christmas told Inside Soap magazine that it was a first for an ethnic family in a soap.

"I don't think ethnic actors get to headline the Christmas storylines very often," he said. "But it's a statement of how the public have taken the Masoods to heart.

"We're no longer 'the Asian family'," he added, "the viewers have embraced these characters as having universal issues which touch everybody.

Nitin recently revealed his excitement at filming scenes for the show's Boxing Day episode, which will see fire spread through the B&B.

"I was walking through it and standing in it! I was like a little kid - I got really excited," he said.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Pat and Patrick become close over the festivities but before anything can really happen between them it is too late."

Pat and Patrick previously had an affair in 2006 but it ended when his wife Yolande found out after being alerted by Stacey Slater.

Pam revealed earlier this year she was leaving the soap after 25 years playing Pat.

Speaking about her exit, she said: "Leaving the 'EastEnders' family will be akin to a bereavement.

"But I'm looking forward to the other work and life opportunities I will now have the time to pursue."

Pat's funeral scenes have already been filmed and saw the return of actor Michael French, who played her son David Wicks from 1993 to 1996.

Show chiefs have promised a tear-jerking send-off for the iconic character.

The Walford hardman played by Steve McFadden has been receiving cryptic messages in the post from someone who knows all about his past, and is seemingly set on revenge and although he may not find out his enemy's identity, viewers will.

A source told Inside Soap magazine: "Fans will finally discover who's been harassing Phil for all this time. That's not to say that Phil himself learns the terrible truth though. The situation may well rumble on into the new year."

Phil is also in for a Christmas Day shock when the mystery figure sends Denise Fox a USB stick with a recording of Phil claiming responsibility for the death of her husband Kevin Wicks.

The source added: "Obviously poor Denise is in complete shock. So she goes out into the square and smashes up Phil's motor. He's livid when he sees the damage and demands to know who put her up to it."

When Phil accuses Jack Branning of giving Denise the incriminating file, Jack's hardman brother Derek Branning sends him packing.

The Walford hardman portrayed by Steve McFadden will receive a midnight visit from police next week, who have been issued with a search warrant in the hope of locating the stash of stolen watches the burly bruiser is currently hiding.

Although their search turns up nothing, officers vow to return to scope out the Queen Vic pub, his garage at the Arches and the R&R nightclub.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "At first Phil is really worried but then he becomes angry about the sudden police attention. He knows he's got an enemy out there and he vows to finally root them out."

However, things only look set to get worse for Phil, as it was recently revealed he would be charged with a murder he didn't commit after his mystery stalker exposes the role he had in Kevin Wicks' death and officers re-examine other crimes he may have been involved in.

This leads to Phil being accused of killing his former fiancee Stella Crawford, who leapt to her death on their wedding day in 2007 after her abuse of stepson-to-be Ben Mitchell came to light.

A source explained: "The police have always been interested in Phil and with his chequered history his many ghosts from his past are coming back to haunt him.

Chucky said: "I have had the pleasure of working on many great productions with fantastic artistes such as Morgan Freeman and I have to say working on 'EastEnders' feels like it is up there with the best of them.

"'EastEnders' is etched in British history and it is an honour and a pleasure to be part of it."

EastEnders' Christmas special will leave one character dead and three others in a critical condition.

The BBC One soap is planning a huge blaze which will see evil Dr. Yusef Khan dead, and hard nut Phil Mitchell, restaurant owner Masood Ahmed and his son Tamwar all left with life threatening injuries.

As a blazing inferno rips through Albert Square's Bed and Breakfast following a festive party, the entire first floor collapses, with Yusef seen plunging 10 feet through the flames.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "This is the biggest fire 'EastEnders' has ever seen and there will be casualties. It is such a huge disaster that it will affect most of the families on the show in one way or another.

"Masood passes out with all the smoke and heat, Phil is rushed to hospital and Tamwar leaves the B&B on fire.

"But Yusef is the one trapped inside and definitely won't live to see 2012. It's not just deaths this fire causes, its divorce and destruction among families."

However, the fire is not the only problem Phil faces, as he is set to be arrested for murder over the death of Kevin Wicks.

The police take him into custody after receiving an anonymous tip-off from a witness to Kevin's death in a horrific smash in 2007 while he was driving an illegal 'cut and shut' car sold to him by Phil.

While the mechanic has got away with the crime for four years, he has recently been receiving calls from a mystery bystander who knows he was responsible.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Phil's past is catching up with him. Whoever it is knows a lot about him and his history. The problem is that list is as long as your arm.

"He will almost be driven mad trying to find out who is tormenting him."

EastEnders' Billy Mitchell is to carry the Olympic torch on the BBC One soap.

On July 23 next year, live footage will show Billy carrying the flame through the fictional London borough of Walford - on its way to the real Olympic Park in Stratford, East London, for the opening ceremony of the summer games on July 27.

Perry said: "When we first discussed the storyline, my initial thought was that I'll now have to get fit.

"While this may be a fictional one-off for Billy Mitchell, it's a real once in a lifetime opportunity for me and I am thrilled that Walford and Albert Square will be part of this amazing event."

Perry, 49, will be one of 8,000 people from the UK to carry the iconic torch, as it crosses all over the country, visiting over 1,000 cities, towns and villages in the UK, starting on May 19, 2012 at Land's End in Cornwall.

Sebastian Coe, chair of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, said: "The announcement is a great addition to the Olympic Torch Relay Route. I'm sure the people of Walford will now start planning their celebrations.

"Along with people right round the UK, the residents of Albert Square will be getting involved to make this their moment to shine."

Tamwar Masood disfigured in EastEnders blaze

EastEnders' Tamwar Masood will be left horribly disfigured following a house fire on Christmas Day (25.12.11).

The Indian restaurant worker is set to face months of plastic surgery to recover from his horrific injuries following the terrifying blaze and although his young wife Afia vows to stand by him, the burns suffered by Tamwar put a huge strain on their marriage.

A source explained: "Tamwar is lucky to be alive after the fire. He escapes but suffers serious scars to his face and it causes depression."For the actor it is going to be a huge challenge with a new look."

Soap veteran Pat Evans played by Pam St. Clement is set to leave Albert Square on Christmas Day and in order to keep her method of departure a surprise three different endings have been filmed, with one seeing her dying in the fire in which Tamwar also gets injured.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "When bosses built a special set for a huge fire in the Square everyone thought that was definitely how Pat was going to go."

But now there is talk of a second person dying in the flames. And the two other options can be added in at the last minute. There are even gaps in the scripts being given to cast members so the news can't leak out.The whole place is buzzing with what is going to happen."

The 42-year-old actress has made a brief return from maternity leave to reprise her role as downtrodden Jane Beale and teased there is still a "spark" between her alter ego and close friend Masoon Ahmed, who, like Jane, is now single following the end of his marriage.

Speaking on ITV1's 'This Morning', she said: "Obviously the spark's there. I think every woman is sitting at home thinking, 'Go on, Jane!' So now they're both single and obviously there's things that have been spoken and said. Now they're single, perhaps something might come of it.

"I think it's brilliant that Jane, who is the normal woman - she's not the glamourpuss or anything - does get these moments where she gets the guy. I think there's a lot that will unfurl over the next few months."

Laurie has decided to only go back to the show for a few months because she doesn't want to miss any of her five-month-old daughter Erin's milestones but promised viewers Jane will not be killed off.

She said: "It's such a hamster wheel to run on, 'EastEnders' - it's such a massive machine and the hours are so long. So I've decided just to go back for a few months and give myself a bit of flexibility after that.

"I don't want to miss the whole first year and everything that happens with the baby within that. I think that, if I've waited this long to have one, then I should enjoy it.

"I'm going back for a few months and they're not going to bump Jane off, I don't think, so the door will be left open for something in the future."

The Walford hardman played by Steve McFadden goes into meltdown when he starts receiving cryptic messages in the post from someone who knows all about his murderous past, and is seemingly set on revenge.

With the first letter containing a photograph of the homeless man the burly mechanic accidentally killed when he torched the car lot in 1993 to get insurance money, Phil becomes aware that his stalker is determined to avenge his victim's death.

An insider told the Daily Star newspaper: "Phil is not usually rattled but this has really got under his skin. Someone is dredging up ghosts from his past."

In attempting to figure out who is behind the horrific hate campaign, the Albert Square baddie will point the finger at his long list of existing enemies, including Janine Butcher, Jack Branning and Walford wimp Ian Beale.

With new hardman Derek Branning played by Jamie Foreman set to join the BBC One soap later this month, furious Phil will even accuse him of the evil plot, potentially leading to a face-off between the perilous pair.

Pat Evans' three EastEnders exits

'EastEnders' bosses are filming three different exits for Pat Evans.

Soap bosses at the BBC are so keen to keep how the hard-nosed matriarch leaves Albert Square under wraps they have filmed three possible scenes of her demise.

It is understood Pat played by Pam St Clement will either be killed in a fire, have a fatal heart attack or die of cancer during the climax of her storyline at Christmas.

Producers have been working on Pat's exit from the show after 25 years for months, and her climactic scenes were filmed this week.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "When bosses built a special set for a huge fire in the Square everyone thought that was definitely how Pat was going to go.

"But now there is talk of a second person dying in the flames. And the two other options can be added in at the last minute. There are even gaps in the scripts being given to cast members so the news can't leak out.

"The whole place is buzzing with what is going to happen."

After her very last filming commitments on Tuesday (08.11.11), Pam, 69, is hosting a party at the studios for cast and crew.

Of her exit from the show she has previously said: "Leaving the 'EastEnders' family will be akin to a bereavement. But I'm looking forward to the other work and life opportunities that I will have the time to pursue."

As Yusef Khan's reign of terror over Zainab played by Nina Wadia comes to a climax, one of the family will lose their life at the hands of the evil doctor.

An insider explained: "Zainab's starting to see Yusef's dark side - and it's a terrifying thing to behold. He's beginning to get violent now, and the situation Zainab finds herself in is very dangerous.

"She's handed over power to this man, who we all know was responsible for trying to kill her once. It can only end in tragedy."

With wicked Yusef trying to convince Zainab to leave Albert Square to start a new life with him and her toddler son Kamil in Pakistan, the troubled mother will be left in a "desperate" situation as the festive season approaches.

However, as Zainab's estranged husband Masood Ahmed and pal Denise Fox - played by Nitin Ganatra and Diane Parish respectively - try to save her from Yusef's evil clutches, one of the Masood family will end up paying the price.

An insider said: "Phil gets wind of what's going on and decides to lay the law down to Janine. He gives her a real mouthful, but Janine stands up to him. Then her boyfriend Michael wades in, and soon threats are flying."

However, when Phil trashes Janine's flat, the newly-loaded heiress who inherited millions from her late grandmother Lydia Simmonds warns him not to mess with her.

The sexually confused teen played by Joshua Pascoe will make his accusations against the gay personal trainer in a shock new plot, which hits Albert Square next week.

Ben's crush on Christian leads him to ask if he'd like to watch a DVD with him, and when he turns up at his flat later that evening the youngster misreads the signals and tries to kiss him.

Christian rejects his advances and Ben is spotted running off in embarassment through the Square by evil doctor, Yusef Khan.

Yusuf asks Ben what happened and after initially saying nothing went on, the teen falsely makes an accusation that Christian touched him inappropriately.

Word gets back to Ben's hardman dad, Phil Mitchell, who confronts Christian in the Queen Vic.

After a heated discussion, Christian punches Phil in the face, leading the burly businessman to wage war against the hunk, as well as smashing up his flat and eventually attacking him.

According to The Sun newspaper, although Ben later confesses he lied about the incident, it has a huge impact on the trainer and boyfriend Syed's already complicated relationship, which sees Christian temporarily leave Walford.

This paves the way for Syed's spurned wife, Amira Shah, and their daughter Yasmin to make further inroads back into his life.

Preeya Kalidas who plays Amira recently said: "The only person that Amira needs in Yasmin's life is Syed - Christian has no place whatsoever.

"I think Syed is going to feel very torn between Christian and Amira, because she has every right to say that she doesn't want Christian to be involved with their baby."

EastEnders' five-night special

EastEnders is to air five nights a week to welcome Max Branning back to Albert Square.

The Walford businessman played by Jake Wood fled the BBC One soap in August after it emerged he had been having a saucy affair with ex-wife Tanya Jessop, who later shunned his affections - unbeknown to Max because she had been diagnosed with cervical cancer.

However, the arrival of the flame-haired flirt back in the Square will also coincide with the appearance of his older brother Derek - portrayed by 'Layer Cake' actor Jamie Foreman - who the Branning family haven't seen in years.

With dastardly Derek having a reputation for being "destructive and devious", his arrival will cause a stir among the entire family during "Branning Week".

An 'EastEnders' spokesperson said: "Tanya will also reveal a long-held family secret, which will rock her mother, Cora, and sister, Rainie, to the core.

"Branning Week will see secrets and lies exposed which will rock the family in a week Walford is sure to remember."

Bosses of the BBC One soap have previously claimed Derek looks set to be the "biggest, baggest" character to grace Walford with his presence.

Bryan Kirkwood, executive producer of 'EastEnders' said: "Loyal viewers may know that the fearsome Derek Branning, eldest son of Jim, has been a shadowy presence looming over the rest of the family for years.

"So it's a real coup to sign Jamie Foreman to play the biggest, baddest Branning brother. Jamie has an incredible acting pedigree, having starred in some of the best British movies of recent times."

Daughter heartbreak for Roxy Mitchell

EastEnders' Roxy Mitchell is forced to hand over custody of her daughter Amy to Jack Branning.

The buxom blonde is devastated when she learns the little girl was taken to hospital while she was on a night out with friends, and after medics also discover she has a fractured wrist from an earlier injury, social services tell her the youngster must stay with her father or be taken into care.

Rita Simons, who plays Roxy, said: "The social worker talks to Roxy and wants to know why she didn't bring her in earlier.

"It turns out that Amy had broken her arm a few days before the accident. Roxy had absolutely no idea - she thought Amy was fine - but the social worker sees neglect."

The troubles start when Roxy agrees to leave Amy with Ben Mitchell for a while until Jack - played by Scott Maslen - arrives to take care of her but the troubled teenager slopes downstairs to Jack's flat with his friend Jay.

With Amy left alone, she decides to run a bath for her doll and when the boys return from snooping they discover her lying facedown in the water.

Roxy doesn't find out until the following day, when she rushes to the hospital to be greeted by social services.

Jack also speaks to social services and tells all about Roxy's troubled family, including Ben's criminal record, leaving the workers to shock Roxy with their verdict.

Rita added to Inside Soap magazine: "Jack makes out she's an unfit mother and takes Amy.

"She's hysterical, crying, 'You can't take my baby' but social services are on his side. Jack won't even let Roxy say goodbye to Amy."

EastEnders trio to get the boot?

Despite it being hoped the appearance of ditzy duo Jodie and Poppy played by Kylie Babbington and Rachel Bright would inject some humour into the show, the pair will make their final appearances in Albert Square next month.

According to The Sun newspaper, Jodie who was in an on-screen relationship with car dealer Darren Miller until he ditched her on their wedding day and Poppy will bow out of the soap as the blonde bombshell goes on the hunt for missing Darren.

Cheryl Fergison was "shocked" to find out she was being written out of 'EastEnders'.

The cuddly soap star was upset to learn her contract would not be renewed after five years of playing unlucky-in-love Heather Trott, and asked bosses not to reveal to her how she exits the BBC One show because she was worried she would give the secret away.

She said: "I have to be honest, I was shocked when 'EastEnders' told me they weren't renewing my contract.

"I said, 'Thank you for having me and please don't tell me how I go'. I know everyone's going to ask me and I won't be able to keep quiet, so I just want to find out when I get the script."

A baby bombshell is on the way for one of Albert Square's female residents, and with Lauren desperate to keep her fling with Tyler Moon a secret from her pal while supporting her mum Tanya through her cancer battle, expecting a child is the last thing she would want.

A source said: "Given that she's supporting her mum, finding out she's pregnant would be awful for Lauren.

"She slept with Tyler knowing Whitney still holds a torch for him - there'll be fireworks if they're going to have a baby."

Another person who could be hit by the baby news is Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold), who sleeps with Ben Mitchell (Joshua Pascoe) as he tries to figure out his sexuality once and for all, and neither teenager is likely to be thrilled at the prospect of being a parent.

A source told the daily Star newspaper: "She struggles a bit at first, like when she makes him a lamb curry that he can't eat because it's not Halal.

"But she's determined to do whatever it takes to be with him. He cares and respects her more than Ian ever did.

EastEnders actress Nicola Stapleton has said she would love Ian Beale's ex-wife to turn up at his and Mandy's wedding, admitting it would "spice things up".

Her EastEnders alter ego Mandy Salter is poised to become Ian's fifth wife after he pops the question and she told Inside Soap magazine that having Jane return could make things very interesting.

"I really hope she comes back at the worst possible moment. That would spice things up a bit, wouldn't it?" Nicola said.

But despite Ian's proposal, the actress admitted she does not know if he and Mandy will actually make it up the aisle.

"I don't know at the moment if the pair of them will actually get married - we haven't got that far in the storyline yet," she said.

Nicola added that she is loving being back in the soap, having returned earlier this year after a 17-year absence from Albert Square.

The character made her comeback after Ian met her working in a strip club and realised who she was.

"I'm having the best time being back here at EastEnders. I'm very pleased that the audience has jumped on the Mandy bandwagon as well," Nicola revealed.

EastEnders' Amira Shah will use her baby daughter Yasmin to "manipulate" estranged husband Syed Masood.

Marc Elliott who plays the homosexual massage therapist in the BBC One soap explained Amira's shock arrival will cause shockwaves throughout Albert Square, and his confused alter-ego will "completely fall" for her devious ploys.

He said: "Amira wants to re-forge a relationship with Syed. She starts being quite manipulative and threatens to take Yasmin to Pakistan and not bring her back.

"He completely falls for her ploys. At one point she tells him that Yasmin has swallowed a ring, but when the hospital X-ray comes back, it turns out she hasn't swallowed anything."

However, Amria's tactics will also spell trouble for Syed's boyfriend Christian Clarke played by John Partridge who is desperate for the couple to adopt their own child.

EastEnders star Preeya Kalidas has admitted that working with a baby on her return to the soap is making her broody.

The actress and singer is coming back to the show as Syed's estranged wife Amira - and she brings a surprise with her in the shape of their baby daughter Yasmin, whom he knew nothing about.

And she told Inside Soap magazine that was thoroughly enjoying working with her younger co-star. "This is the first time I've acted with a baby, and she's making me broody," Preeya said.

"There's no way you couldn't enjoy spending time with her. She's just adorable."

The storyline is bound to complicate matters for Syed, who was recently discussing the possibility of having a child with his partner Christian - who he left Amira for after admitting he was gay.

"I think Syed is going to feel very torn between Christian and Amira, because she has every right to say that she doesn't want Christian to be involved with their baby," Preeya added.

"It's not easy for her to forgive Christian for stealing her husband - she thought he was her mate. Amira is going to fight for the father of her child."

EastEnders Kat Moon will be tempted to have an affair after her husband Alfie accuses her of cheating on him.

Alfie assumes Kat's recent pregnancy is as a result of infidelity on her part after he was declared sterile by doctors in Spain, and his accusations lead to big trouble in the couple's marriage when a flirty delivery guy takes a shine to the pub landlady.

A source said: "In accusing her of cheating on him, Alfie has undone years of good work in building up Kat's self esteem. No matter what he says now, she feels as though he still sees her as a woman of loose morals who would just go off with anyone.

"Alfie cooks up a hare-brained plan to keep Kat by treating her mean and starts ignoring her, basically. The trouble is that while Alfie is busy playing that game, a delivery driver who calls at the Queen Vic makes a big play for Kat - and soon she's facing serious temptation."

Kat played by Jessie Wallace finds Mark, the delivery man hard to resist when she has a night out at nightclub R&R, but it remains to be seen if she will succumb to his charms.

The source added to Inside Soap magazine: "Kat is vulnerable, insecure and at odds with Alfie. It's exactly the sort of state that could see her do something very stupid indeed. Alfie has done serious damage to their marriage but Kat could destroy it completely."

Preeya Kalidas has revealed that Amira Shah 'comes back fighting' on her EastEnders return.

The actress is back in the soap next week and told BBC Radio 1Xtra that filming scenes in which Amira revisits Albert Square to tell her estranged husband Syed Masood that he has a daughter was 'exciting'.

She said: "It was exciting because I didn't know initially where they were going to take her."

She went on: "[Amira] can be quite scheming. You've got to remember that she went through a lot, she suffered a lot. She's had to deal with the fact that she's been a single parent who was outcast from the whole community.

"Her father made her feel like she's damaged goods and no one's going to ever want her again. So she comes back fighting."

Preeya left EastEnders last year after finding out her husband was in love with Christian Clarke.

EastEnders star David Essex has admitted that he shed tears when filming his final scenes as Eddie Moon in the soap.

The 70s pop star turned actor confessed to the emotional moment in an interview with Inside Soap magazine and said that co-stars Matt Lapinskas and Tony Discipline, who play his onscreen sons, also cried when they said goodbye.

"Let's put it this way - there were lots of tears during one of my final scenes at the boxing gym," David said.

"It was very powerful, and myself and the other Moon boys were crying our eyes out!"

David whose alter ego leaves Walford after splitting from Vanessa also revealed that he has enjoyed tackling some of the more challenging storylines on the show.

"The emotional and soul-baring things that Eddie has had to deal with have made it so challenging and interesting for me," he said.

"Great credit has to go to the show's executive producer Bryan Kirkwood and the writers. They've given me some brilliant stuff to do."

And he has not ruled out a return to Albert Square in the future.

"I've got lots on, so it'll all depend on timing," David said. "I haven't closed the door on Eddie - it's just been left ajar!"

Cheryl Fergison is set to leave EastEnders in a dramatic 'top secret' storyline, it has been revealed.

The 47-year-old will be waving farewell to Albert Square in 2012, after five years of playing the George Michael-obsessed, Alice band-wearing cheese fanatic Heather Trott.

"I've had a wonderful time at EastEnders - it's been a privilege to be part of such an amazing programme and working alongside a fantastic group of people. I'm really excited about exploring new opportunities," she told the EastEnders website.

Soap bosses have not said whether Heather will be killed off or whether the door would be left open for a future return.

"Heather's character has been hugely popular over the years, but the decision has been taken to cut her out of the show before viewers tire of her," an insider told the Daily Mirror.

"Cheryl will leave when her contract comes to an end, but it's set to be a dramatic exit which will see the character go out with a real bang."

The source added: "The storyline details are being kept firmly under wraps, but it will be a fitting end for a character after nearly five years."

Chery, who joined the BBC soap in 2007, decided not to extend her contract.

The character was originally planned as a guest role, but proved so popular with viewers that she became a full-time cast member. She has been involved in major storylines, most notably becoming pregnant by schoolboy Darren Miller following a one-night stand.

EastEnders actor Steve McFadden has said he does not think his screen alter ego Phil Mitchell will ever accept that his son Ben is gay.

Recent storylines have seen the teenager played by 16-year-old Joshua Pascoe sharing a kiss with his new friend Duncan, but trying to keep his sexuality a secret from his dad.

And Steve told Inside Soap magazine he does not think the mechanic would be able to cope with the news.

"Ben being gay isn't the worst thing in the world for Phil," he said. "But it's just not how he wants his son to be. I don't think he'll ever accept it if Ben comes to him and admits that he's gay."

"Phil has this romantic notion of fatherhood, and what his son should be like as he grows up," the 52-year-old added.

"He wants Ben to be more like Jay - someone who's useful with his fists and into more macho things."

Steve recently told TV Choice magazine how impressed he was with Joshua's handling of the storyline.

"When I was at drama school I played a gay character and had to take my clothes off on stage," the actor recalled. I know how embarrassed I was, and I was 25 at the time - Joshua's only 16.

Former EastEnders star Alex Ferns has said he is still haunted by Trevor Morgan, the psychopathic wife-beater he played in the soap.

The 42-year-old who is currently starring alongside Samantha Womack in the London production of South Pacific told Inside Soap magazine that people still think of him as Little Mo's evil husband, even though the character was killed off in 2002.

"I'd never say never to doing another soap later on," Alex said. But I don't know if it'll ever happen - it's quite difficult because I'm still very much associated with Trevor."

The Scottish-born actor added that his character in South Pacific could not be further removed from his Albert Square alter ego.

"In real life I'm very chilled out - so playing psychos and insane people is a real departure from that," he said.

And he also confessed he has never seen Samantha as Ronnie Branning in EastEnders, as he stopped watching the soap.

"I must admit I don't watch any of the soaps any more so I've never actually seen Sam as Ronnie," Alex admitted. "But I gather she did a really brilliant job.

"She's great to perform with - she's full of energy and lots of fun. We actually worked together on the musical Guys And Dolls before she was in EastEnders."

EastEnders star Cheryl Fergison is set to leave the soap after five years, according to The Mirror - and producers say her exit will be 'dramatic'.

The 47-year-old, who plays Heather Trott in the show will be written out early next year - although show bosses have not said whether the character will be killed off or whether the door will be left open for a possible return.

"Heather’s character has been hugely popular over the years, but the decision has been taken to cut her out of the show before viewers tire of her," an insider told the paper.

"Cheryl will leave when her contract comes to an end, but it’s set to be a dramatic exit which will see the character go out with a real bang.

"The storyline details are being kept firmly under wraps, but it will be a fitting end for a character after nearly five years."

An EastEnders spokesman confirmed the actress would be leaving when her contract ended in early 2012.

Cheryl joined the soap as a guest character in 2007 but proved so popular with viewers that she became a full-time member of the cast.

Since then she has been involved in several major storylines, most notably becoming pregnant by Darren Miller following a one-night stand.

Offscreen Cheryl hit the headline earlier this year after marrying a Moroccan goat-herder 20 years younger than her, who she met in an Internet chatroom.

The Wicks brothers are set to make a dramatic return to 'EastEnders'.

Simon and David Wicks played by Nick Berry and Michael French will be part of a shock storyline which leads to the death of their mother Pat Butcher (Pam St Clement).

It has been 21 years since Nick appeared in the BBC One series and bosses are working hard to secure his return.

An insider said: "Producers are working flat out to get Nick and Michael on board. Nick hasn't done any major TV work for the best part of a decade. To get him back into Albert Square would be a major coup."

Nick who went on to appear in ITV's 'Heartbeat' after his stint in 'EastEnders' has reduced his work load in recent years but bosses are hoping he will be tempted by the chance to help give soap legend Pam a rousing send off after she announced her intention to leave Albert Square.

Speaking about her departure, Pam said: "I have enjoyed 25-and-a-half wonderful years in 'EastEnders' creating the character of Pat, but feel it's time to hang up her earrings.

"Leaving the 'EastEnders' family will be akin to a bereavement. But I'm looking forward to the other work and life opportunities that I will have the time to pursue."

Show boss Brian Kirkwood also paid tribute to the 69-year-old actress, saying: "Pam St Clement has created one of the most iconic and loved characters in British TV history. Over the years we've seen her develop from a shrew into a matriarch.

EastEnders Whitney Dean is too "wrapped up" in Tyler Moon to notice Fatboy Chubb likes her.

The troubled character played by Shona McGarty finds herself at the centre of a love triangle when both decide to pursue her following her sex exploitation drama, where she was forced into prostitution, but Shona believes Tyler will emerge the winner.

She said: "Deep down Whitney really fancies Tyler. She gets butterflies when she sees him and feels all nervous when he's around. Those are the kind of feelings a girl her age should be having but given the way her childhood was snatched away from her, I think it's the first time Whitney has really felt this way.

"She'd definitely pick Tyler because she likes a bit of drama. Whitney wouldn't want things to be boring - that's not to say Fatboy's dull but things would just be too nice with him and she knows life isn't like that the whole time."

"I love the thought of going back to the Square - even if it was just for a week for old time's sake," Louisa said.

Cancer plot could help detection levels

Doctors expect to see an increase in the number of patients being treated for cervical cancer after EastEnders shows a central character battle the disease.

Viewers will see mother-of-three Tanya Jessop diagnosed after a routine smear test.

Arjun Jeyarajah from Barts and The London NHS Trust said the storyline in the BBC1 soap could have a similar effect to that seen two years ago following the death from the disease of Big Brother's Jade Goody.

He said: "Soaps like EastEnders can do an awful lot of good in highlighting the importance of women looking after their health and having regular check-ups, including smear tests."

He added that the cancer was 'very treatable' if detected early and women should have smear tests every three years.

On the day Jade was diagnosed in August 2008, Cancer Research UK witnessed 10 times the usual number of hits to its website and some cervical screening teams reported a rise in the number of women attending their appointments for smear tests.

Alfie's cousin Michael is believed to be the biological father of Tommy after Kat had a fling with him. But Shane revealed he and Jessie want him to turn out to be Alfie's son.

He said: "As soon as I found out, I thought 'If Alfie isn't infertile, then surely Tommy could be his son.

EastEnders return was 'interesting' says Joe Swash

Actor Joe Swash has said that his recent return to EastEnders - in which he played Mickey Miller for five years - was 'interesting'.

The 29-year-old was brought back to Albert Square to appear in two episodes as co-star Charlie G Hawkins who plays his screen brother Darren prepares to leave.

"I went back to EastEnders a couple of weeks ago to do some episodes, which was interesting and nice," he said.

"Basically I head back for Darren's leaving storyline, but I can't say much more than that, sorry - I'd tell you if I could!"

Since leaving EastEnders Joe has won I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here and hosted the children's TV show Gimme A Break and is now presenting the ITV2 gameshow Cadbury Spots v Stripes Minute To Win It alongside Caroline Flack.

Could Mandy be a rival to Janine?

Returning EastEnders character Mandy Salter is set to rival Janine Butcher as the femme fatale of Albert Square, according to Nicola Stapleton who plays her.

Nicola who is back in the show after a 17-year absence, told Inside Soap magazine that there could be fireworks between Mandy and Janine when they see each other again.

"There could be a clash!" she said. "Those two haven't seen each other for so long, but I think there'll be a bit of sniping.

"Charlie Brooks is brilliant, so I hope to get some good stuff for us both," Nicola added.

And Nicola - whose alter-ego will re-appear in the show when she bumps into Ian Beale outside a strip club - said that she had kept in touch with cast members during her time away, including Sid Owen who plays Mandy's former boyfriend Ricky.

"I've always kept in touch with Sid," she revealed. "We were in Bad Girls together when he played Donny Kimber, a prison guard who had an affair with my character.

"And I still see Sean Maguire, who played Aidan, when he's in London. He works in Los Angeles, but I bumped into him at a casting recently."

Albert Square is to get a new bad boy as screen hardman Jamie Foreman - the son of a real East End villain - joins the cast of EastEnders.

The actor, who specialises in thugs and nasties, will play Derek Branning who is set to spark trouble when he sets foot in Walford later this year.

The star is the son of Freddie Foreman, a former associate of the notorious Kray brothers in the 1960s. He was jailed for a decade for disposing of the body of Jack "The Hat" McVitie.

Derek has been a figure in name only in EastEnders and has been out of the Brannings' lives for many years.

But show bosses say he is intent on being "king of the Square" when he finally shows up.

He said of his new role: "I am hugely excited to be joining such an iconic show. EastEnders is full of fantastic actors so it is a role I couldn't refuse. The Brannings are such a great family to be joining and I am extremely interested to see how Derek is going to fit in."

Bryan Kirkwood, executive producer of the BBC One soap, said: "Loyal EastEnders viewers may know that the fearsome Derek Branning, eldest son of Jim, has been a shadowy presence looming over the rest of the family for years.

"So it's a real coup to sign Jamie Foreman to play the biggest, baddest Branning brother. Jamie has an incredible acting pedigree, having starred in some of the best British movies of recent times, and we can't wait for him to bring his unique talents to Walford."

A show source said: "Out of all the Brannings, Derek is the one that most people fear. Although he can be charming he will be the one that can out alpha almost any man in Albert Square, maybe even Phil. He is going to cause a lot of disruption to his family"
